Mindy Chase, Founder and
President
In November 2000, Mindy found a way to combine her background in
horse breeding with her experience in marketing and advertising.
She founded Horse Husbands Inc., a stallion marketing and advertising
agency.
During college, while studying equine reproduction
in the Animal Science program at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, she worked
as a breeding assistant at Varian Arabians in Arroyo Grande, California
where Sheila Varian had created a breeding program that produced
world champion show horses. Year by year, she etched out a place
for herself in Arabian breeding history.
During her junior year, Mindy
studied abroad in New Zealand. working at Nevelle R Stud outside
of Christchurch, New Zealand, the largest Standardbred breeding
farm in New Zealand. Her duties were similar to those at Varians,
prepping mares and collecting stallionsbut at Nevelle R, she
was also the night foaler. Foaling out mares each night proved an
extremely useful experience, rounding out her knowledge of the breeding
cycle.
After graduating from Cal Poly with a degree in
Agricultural Business Managementfocusing
in Marketing, Mindy moved to Colorado and landed a job as the Breeding
Manager at Midnight Valley Friesans. This was a small operation
compared to the two other farms. There was one Friesan stallion
(Franz) and one Fell Pony Stallion (Danny).
Upon moving to Portland, Oregon she immersed herself
in the world of internet start-ups, corporate marketing, and graphic
design. During which time she founded Chase
Consulting and Design, where she designed and developed web
sites and marketing collateral for international corporations including
Nike, Hewlett Packard, and Sequent. She also managed marketing and
advertising projects for small start-ups such as Salu.net and Myhealthbank.com.
The high-tech industry allowed her to gain the high quality marketing
skills that she felt much of the horse industry neededand
the deep desire to return to horses and spend more time at the barn.
